[PbP]Arcanus Collegiate [Chapter 2 – Ebomnar]
Stacy begins to take Ebomnar through the streets walking and then she looks to him and says “Those wings, you can fly with them right? Place we are going to is about six stories up. In a dead sprint I could be there in five minutes but don’t know you can keep up? Alternatively you can pick me up and we can get there quicker. Don’t strike me as the type that wants to see the sixteen waterfalls.”
07-05-2013, 11:46 PM
“Depends on how heavy you are. I’m quick and graceful, not necessarily full of brawn.”
07-05-2013, 11:49 PM
“Well let’s see how fast you fly.” Stacey takes off in a sprint using some unknown type of energy to jump greater distances than someone her size normally could.
07-05-2013, 11:51 PM
Ebonmar casts strong wings and begins flying to the location, climbing high with beats of his strong wings.
07-06-2013, 12:17 AM
As you fly around the city you seem to be getting odd looks from people. Paying attention to Stacey you are able to keep up despite her unnatural agility. Ebonmar begins to understand why the Nessi nor the Ikail have ever managed to catch Stacey as she climbs the city like many would a ladder moving from location to the next almost with a studied and steady motion. After about ten minutes you arrive at a large mansion like building with a massive coutyard with students from different races learning the way of the Magus. On the gate it reads “Arcanus Collegiate: School of Magus and Eldritch Knights.”
Stacey looks to Ebomnar and smiles “That was fun, few keep up with me. Here you are. Perhaps after you want to see all the famous arcane places in the city.”
07-06-2013, 10:05 AM
Ebonmar seems impressed with her speed and offers her a respectful nod followed surprisingly by a small (very tiny) smile. He seems unbothered by the looks or opinions of others. The Strix turns towards the gate and attempts to enter.
07-06-2013, 11:36 AM
As Ebonmnar enters the courtyard he sees various races, mostly elves practicing either martial styles or magic. A few are mixing both and fewer are in what appears to be an arena for sparring. Many of them seem dedicated to their training. Without a single word as he turns to face the mansion an elderly elven woman with a large book and unusual green eyes. Her attire is that of a matron that would seem to demand respect and her demeanor expressionless.
“Greetings unusual visitor, I am Lúthien Felagund. What brings you to the Arcanus Collegiate?” She speaks in a very dry tone in draconic, showing very little emotion.
07-06-2013, 12:10 PM
Ebonmar nods to the woman with a deeper movement of his head to acknowledge her apparent position. “I am Ebonmar, a Magus from far from your realm. I wished to visit your academy to see what I could learn from those with similar skills and powers to my own.”
07-06-2013, 12:14 PM
“Then tell me Magus are you a specialist in any way? Or are just another who thought magic and the sword were a clear and concise art?” Luthien replies “Come with me, do your kind of Magus drink tea?”
07-06-2013, 12:18 PM
“I am a specialist, after a fashion. Though I would prefer to speak on what in private. As for tea, my people do not drink it but it is a taste I have acquired since being on the wing.”
07-06-2013, 01:41 PM
Luthien leads you inside a luxuriously decorated mansion. On the inside you can see children being taught lessons and running around. The Mahogany flooring in the center is covered by a Velvet carpet with gold inlays down the middle. Pictures of a family of elves lie across the wall. a large candlelight chandelier hangs with two children cleaning it and then using a spell to light each of the individual candles. She takes you to a study room filled with books and a large oak table in the middle with a pot of tea there. She sits down and hands pours two cups and motions you to sit. she casts a spell on her tea to heat it up and begins drinking.
“This is my office it doesn’t get more private than that. Speak your mind child.” Luthien says with an almost motherly tone
07-06-2013, 08:02 PM
The Strix walks through the mansion, abscentmindedly wondering at the amount of resources frivolously spent. But more importantly, he ever the pessimist, he wonders why he was accepted so…easily. Ebonmar stands a moment before sitting, tasting the tea. “I would desire to know more of this place and the skills you teach. My own come from a tradition handed down to specially-selected members of my race that focus upon the entrusted nature of the Black Blade.”
07-06-2013, 09:21 PM
Luthien nods “Up until a few months ago this place belonged to the Arcanus family, he donated it to Myself and the Arcani guard Phantom Arvoy Benedict. We decided to start up the first public school for the magus style of magic and combat. Up until recently it has had a stigma in our nation since its not practicing full casting.”
Luthien takes a sip from her tea and continues “On top of that we are also an orphanage for the less fortunate giving them some basic training. As for training you would appear to be more proficient than most that teach here, I should be asking you if you wanted to take time to volunteer and show the children a thing or two. I might be able to teach you something but it wont be much… Black blade magi tend to be a bit possessive over their weapon selections. Your weapon does it have a name?”
07-06-2013, 09:52 PM
Ebonmar looks rather surprised. “I have not known of non-Strix that have such a blade. Can you explain this? And yes, he has a name.”
Black Razor: “I am called Black Razor. I rarely speak, Luthien…and you have my attention.”
07-06-2013, 09:58 PM
“Greeting to you Black Razor.” Luthien replies “The Blade Blade community tends to keeps them as ancestral weapons they are few and far between but almost all I have heard of come to seek me out. Elves, Humans, an Undine and even an Astani have all made their way here at one time or another. Each with a different personality and story or goal. With the war up north a few of them have gone missing and in their normal state they are simply a black sphere. Most of the black blades only seek to complete their task, there was an interesting one a student of mine has acquired however he out on patrol for a few days. The life of the wielder of a black blade tends to be either long or extremely short but the partnership is something one can admire.”
07-06-2013, 10:39 PM
Ebonmar: “I would be intrigued to learn more of these others who wield such a weapon. What where they like, and what were their goals…and I would like to meet these individual when he returns from his patrol.”
Black Razor: “I’m more interested in what you can teach, Luthien. You say its not much, but I doubt that is so.”
07-06-2013, 10:46 PM
“The Meister always wants to know how to sing a different tune and his baton always wants to strike the note. The others vary in personality child, each blade paired to them from a long line of traditions and tales that date back to the age of chaos.”Luthien replies before continuing. “The one who is on patrol Nashara, she is surprisingly the only female black blade wielder I have met, her blade is calle Phayge, a being that once roamed the stars that recently departed with no way to return home so her power became a weapon of power. An unusual halfling dropped it off and told me to find it a wielder.”
Luthien takes a moments to sip her tea and casts a spell which seems to highlight every scar Ebomnar has recieved “Training in combat? Nothing I could teach someone such as you as for knowledge I may a few things but I wish to ask if you would speak to my ten oldest students who are departing up north. They need to be aware of the dangers they may face.”
07-07-2013, 10:00 AM
Ebonmar: “Perhaps I shall, but want to speak to this Nashara and Phayge, and perhaps avail myself of the spell knowledge of this place. Would this be a satisfactory payment for such services?”
07-07-2013, 10:35 AM
Luthien replies “One good act always deserves another, When Nashara has returned I should send her to where you are staying and that’s another piece of information I will need to know.”
07-07-2013, 10:49 AM
“I am staying at the Dragons Perch. I would also ask, what race is Nashara?”
07-07-2013, 10:53 AM
“What an unusual question. I shall reply with a question of my own, why does it matter?” Luthien replies
07-07-2013, 10:56 AM
07-07-2013, 11:04 AM
“No, there’s a bit more to it than that. Most do not care unless they are prejudiced against another.” Luthien pours herself another cup and stands up “Very well however do not cast judgement on what she is born as, like you she is a magus. Nashara is a Samsaran. Now come with me, let us teach the impatient youth a thing or two about that to expect on the frontlines.”
07-07-2013, 11:16 AM
“Forgive me my ignorance, but I am not familiar with the name Samsaran.” Ebonmar follows her towards her students.
07-07-2013, 11:25 AM
Luthien stops and almost lets out a bit of a smile before continuing walking “Samsarans are often recieved a lot of mistrust, hatred and misguided envy here in Zwindler. They live through many lives until they achieve perfect harmony, for the most part they only seek to understand the world around them. Due to their unusual look on death humans distrusts and elves believe they are the servant of the destroyer rather than accept the blame for what we did long ago. Nashara is very much a true Samsaran that has recently come into the world about eighty years ago. She believes herself to become the recollection of a war with outsiders. She is only coming into her talent at the moment.”
As you get to the middle hall a young human boy with brown hair, brown eyes and light complextion stops in front of Luthien. He does a formal bow and speaks “Headmaster Luthien, you called?”
Luthien replies “Hello Rick, please gather the older students in the courtyard, Maester Ebomnar will speak to them of the front lines.”
Rick turns to the Strix and does another formal bow “Of course, it is an honor Maester, please excuse me.”
07-07-2013, 11:31 AM
The Strix rubs his black chin in thought as she describes the Samsarans. After a moment, he nods. “I would be very keen on meeting her for that fact alone. You describe a race of people I could come to admire.”
Ebonmar looks at the young human with a momentary hard stare before nodding ever so slightly.
07-07-2013, 11:56 AM
Rick takes off talking to various people as they begin to leave the manor.
Luthien goes out to the courtyard where you can see many students gathering in formation. She speaks to you “I doubt she has had much in the way of conversation partners in past year or so, she is a fully fledged Meister that I trained for twenty years. As for this lecture stick to Draconic as it is their mother tongue and they may need to get used to hearing accents.”
07-07-2013, 11:59 AM
Ebonmar nods and waits to begin.
07-07-2013, 12:27 PM
Students gather to form an assembly with the fifteen intended for the lesson in front and the fifty others sitting far behind, they all look at Luthien with respect and Ebomnar with curiosity. Rick stands next to Luthien and bows “Headmaster I gathered the eldest however the others seemed to want to hear about it as well. I tried to warn them of the details but it would appear that the teachers also wanted to hear.”
Luthien nods “Very well”
Luthien claps her hands together and a very large ancient looking tome appears and she begins to speak not loudly but her voice extends throughout the courtyard at an even level “Greetings Students and teachers, today we have a special guest here to talk to the eldest about the front lines and what they could end up encountering. I want you all to pay close attention, Meister Ebomnar travelled three countries to come talk with us so give the respect you would give to me. Understood?”
The students all put up one glowing finger, some struggle at it still. Luthien continues “Meister you have their attention.”
07-07-2013, 12:38 PM
Ebonmar looks between Luthien and the crowd, having not realized it would be
many people. At the best of times, the Strix’s personality leaves a lot to be desired, let alone in front of a group of unknown individuals, most of which were probably human, his sworn enemies. For a moment or two, Ebonmar looks like he’s about to reconsider this, but he feels the pull of Black Razor and he steps up to where he needs to speak and unfurls his great, dark wings, allowing their full span to fall before the crowd. A moment later he folds them again slowly before speaking.
“I only speak when necessary, so heed what I say, it shall not be repeated. Your enemy is fierce and deadly. It can resist magic and blade alike. They have been to many worlds and have stripped them all bare of life. This is what you face. Keep this close to your heart and allow it to give you purpose; you fight for survival. Not for your own, but for everyone. Understand that all shall perish if we do not unite and face this together. As the path of the Magi is one of combination, so to must we all combine if we are to defeat your enemy.”
07-07-2013, 12:42 PM
Ebomnar notice some students are taking notes and still paying full attention, the fifteen in the front almost seems to heeding the words with a somewhat mix between disbelief and fear. All seems to staring at Ebomnar with respect waiting for him to continue.
07-07-2013, 01:31 PM
Ebonmar takes a few moments to explain in his own, cryptic, short-worded way, of the common types of Nessi and Ikali and their known weaknesses. After this, he refers to Magi spells. “I have found it helpful to prepare shocking grasp as a mainstay spell. Many of the Nessi wear armor, and their machine soldiers are all made of metal. Likewise, being quick with Haste has saved my life on more than one occasion.”
07-07-2013, 01:57 PM
The fifteen in the front nod while others seem to take notes on the various Nessi and Ikail. A young male elf in the front raises a mage hand as if waiting to ask a question.
07-07-2013, 02:00 PM
Ebonmar nods to him. “Speak.”
07-07-2013, 02:03 PM
The Elf stands up and bows “Thank you Meister. I have a question as important as knowing the enemy but also the enviroment and atmosphere. What is like at the front lines? What is the emotional atmosphere that comes paired with it? and how does one stay vigilant against the odds?”
The elf sits down.
07-07-2013, 02:08 PM
“Despair. Death. Fear. Our enemy instills these ideals, but only the weak succumb. Do not be weak. Stand vigiliant and ever-ready for attack. Know that the enemy is stronger and more experienced…but you have desperation on your side. There is nothing to loose. Know this and your fear will not control you.”
07-07-2013, 02:14 PM
Luthien decides to add a few words to speak “Remember that fear is the warning of danger that is imminent and potentially unavoidable, if it controls you then you will perish. To feel no fear is idiotic and reckless and will also get you killed. Courage is a weapon all Meisters wield, the ability to work with fear they feel and overcome obstacles. Unless any of you decide to be a paladin, you will always know fear as a friend or an enemy that will try to take you over.”
07-07-2013, 02:16 PM
Ebonmar nods to that. “Listen well to her, for she speaks the truth.”
07-07-2013, 02:19 PM
The students all note down either mentally or physically then from in the back an eighty year old elven girl attempts to raise an arcane hand but doesn’t manage to hold it for longer than ten seconds.
07-07-2013, 02:21 PM
Ebonmar looks to the girl. “You may speak.”
The little girl demonstrates an unusual knowledge of the spell message making it so that it is heard along the way in a quiet tone she bows and speaks “Thank you M..Meister. I have a per..personal question. W…What’s it like to have wings?”
A few of the children in the back snicker and are cut short by a gesture Luthien does. Luthien speaks “Let it be known that is better to ask a question than not to. Meister Ebonmar would you please indulge a childs curiosity?”
07-07-2013, 06:47 PM
Ebonmar gives his first real smile…a smile brought on by a subject close to his heart, along with the innocence of a child’s wonder. His tone softens and he speaks again. “It may be normal for me to have them, but even so, I am always mesmerized by the open sky. To know the ground, roads, trails, do not limit you, it is the essence of freedom. You can look out into the air, pick a place, spread your wings and fly.”
07-07-2013, 11:10 PM
The child smiles “Thank you Meister.” she sits down.
Luthien then speaks up “Thank you Meister Ebomnar for coming to speak with the students, they have learned much and will put it to go use. Schedule resumes as per normal. Students Stand Ready!”
The Students all get up with one arm across their chest placing a fist above their heart. Luthien then speaks again “May your eyes always be open to the road ahead.”
The students reply “And may magic flow through your heart like water in the river.”
It takes a few moments but the students then go back to a usual schedule. “Very well spoken Meister. I believe you have scratched my back now I shall return the favour, as I will not have much time before my next meeting I will empart to you either knowledge or combat training of your choosing within the three hours. I will hold you to the standards of a Magus of the Meister level and teach accordingly. To which do you wish to learn about?” Luthien speaks with a positive tone.
07-07-2013, 11:15 PM
After a brief telepathic conversation with Black Razor, Ebonmar replies. “Knowledge. I would appreciate being taught a new Magus Arcana or arcane spells I currently do not know. If that falls into the realm of what you speak.”
07-07-2013, 11:18 PM
“Very well arcana’s are only taught through experience but spells can be expanded upon. Come to the study let me have a look at your spellbook.” Luthien says as she begins to move into the manor.
07-07-2013, 11:36 PM
Ebonmar is hesitant, but opens his black spellbook for her. The book is a medium-sized book that is incredibly old, passed down for hundreds of years in his tribe.
07-07-2013, 11:42 PM
Ebomnar notices that when Luthien holds the book it is with the utmost care. She carefully lays it down on the table and then pulls out a some form of clear liquid and a brush. She carefully brushes over the bindings and each of the pages for about thirty minutes then puts it away and looks to Ebomnar “I have treated the book as I do with many of my Meisters. This treatment still allows you to write but makes the book twice as hard to destroy and resistant to a spellbooks worst enemy, fire. Now tell me which do you prefer a single spell of power, one of moderate power with one of lesser power or three of lesser power?”
07-08-2013, 07:42 PM
“I would prefer a spell of power, something that would aid me while flying.”
07-08-2013, 07:56 PM
Luthien pulls her book out from behind her large book and then examines the writing in Ebonmar’s writing she then pulls a book down off the shelf in almost the same bindings as Ebomnar’s black book aside from it is white with a black cresent moon in the middle. Using a neater version of the Strix’s handwriting the imprints a spell carefully into the new book and hands the two books to him.
“Here a new spell in a fresh book. It’s called Cloak of Winds and considered to be of most aid to the any arcane caster in the Windtide islands. I see that your book is already nearing completion so since you have taught here I thought giving you a Meister’s spellbook would be appropriate. It will also bring me great pleasure of you to accept such a gift.” Luthien replies “After all few will ever reach your talent level and even fewer will have carry a burden as large and unknown as yours.”
07-08-2013, 08:27 PM
Ebonmar takes the book, speechless for a moment. Never had he met one not of his race that was so generous, and even those of his own people could have their own motives. After a moment or two, he takes it and nods deeply, his voice struggling to find the words. “I…I thank you, most deeply, and truly, Mistress Luthien. Your kindness and honesty shall not be forgotten.”
07-08-2013, 08:42 PM
At the word mistress Luthien shakes her head “Not Mistress, that is for brother owners, managers and those nobles that think themselves better than others. I am a headmaster or if you prefer a grand meister, I’ve fought hard and long to achieve both titles and deserve them. As both it is my duty to teach the young and instruct them with care. You may have seen much more practice than any student I have come across but you are still young. Given your occupation you may become sour or even disheartened at what you see so it is as important to have positive memories to fall back on when all hope seems lost. I also doubt my students will forget the winged man who came to speak to them.”
A knock is heard at the door followed by an entry from a woman who stands seven feet tall, built with the curves of a goddess but the brawn of a beast. Her red hair flows as her solid white eyes glare into the room.
“Headmaster Luthien, I believe we have an appointment.” She speaks in a monotone “Am I interrupting something.”
“Lady Reith a pleasure as always. I believe we were just finishing, do come in.” Luthien replies with a slightly hesitant tone.
07-08-2013, 09:02 PM
“I apologize for the mistaken title, Headmaster. I meant no disrespect.”
Ebonmar then turns to the interesting Lady Reith and appraises her with a quick movement of his head, not at all unusual for Strix who’s eyes remain fixed in their skulls and cannot move like humans. He nods ever so slightly to her arrival.
07-08-2013, 09:09 PM
“I thought I would come to you with news of your pet project, seems that Evocation has taken up that the part in society you lay will only continue to grow. Your school is now on the record as an official council school as well as the title’s of Grand Meister and Meister being added to the list of official titles for Magi in Zwindler.” Lady Reith pauses for a moment and then looks directly at the Strix and then speaks again “My oh my, you look familiar. Are you one of her new students or just snooping around?”
07-08-2013, 09:18 PM
“Your assumptions are incorrect. I am Meister Ebonmar. Even should they have been correct, my business is my own.”
07-08-2013, 09:25 PM
Reith lets out a low growl covered by laugh “Oh you would be to go toe to toe with but you’re not at my level fledgeling.”
A flash of anger which quickly subsides goes over Luthien’s face “Do not insult the Meisters and guests of my school, I will hold it against your integrity. Now did you come here to taunt people or shall we go outside and train?”
Lady Reith grins and speaks “I’m sorry if I have offended, sometimes I forget my tongue. Too many years in the arena. If you would like Meister, you can observe our practice and see if there anything you can learn from us.”
07-08-2013, 09:31 PM
“I only fight when necessary. You’ve not garnered enough of my interest to make it necessary, Lady Reith…but I would certainly watch to learn what I could from the Grand Meister.” Ebonmar’s face remains impassive, with only a hint of his perpetual grimace of disapproval, though the jab is plain in its intent regardless.
07-08-2013, 09:40 PM
You hear a Familiar growl under Reiths voice but can’t pin it as to where “As I have said I don’t deal with those beneath me, you couldn’t comprehend the magnitude of difference between you and I. After you are done watching perhaps I could teach you a few mannerisms of…”
Luthien snaps her fingers and stands up “Enough both of you! Meister Ebomnar you are out of line and Rei you are further along than he is. I will not tolerate any insult to my honor in my school. Both of you will apologize to the opposition and to my school. Also you know better Rei, you’re a gladiator for all of the nine hells to see. You know how to push buttons along.”
Lady Reith almost looks ready to rip someones head off before she calms down and then with a very respectful tone speaks and bows “I am sorry to have offended you Meister Ebomnar and you Grand Meister Luthien. I have had a lot of turmoil on a personal matter and should be so irrational.”
07-08-2013, 09:52 PM
Ebonmar nods, feeling genuinely for Luthien and her frustration. The Strix bows lightly and speaks. “It was not my intent to insult you, Grand Meister. You have been a finer host than I could have imagined and I feel shamed for angering you so. I am a stranger to these lands and the societies that inhabit them. Where I originate, such tons and challenges are rare, but they do not go unanswered…even if that answer is one to perpetuate the challenge itself.” His head turns, owl like, to Lady Reith. “I extend my apologies to you. Perhaps we can begin again without the posturing.”
07-08-2013, 10:04 PM
Luthien smiles “Accepted now shall we begin Rei?”
Lady Reith “Indeed, though I am curious about the extent of his abilities. I would like to challenge your Meister.”
Luthien shakes her head “He is not a Meister of the collegiate but one of his own design. As such only he could ever answer such a request.”
As you continue down the hallway you see something that looks like a broom closet door that reads “Magic sparring room”. When Luthien opens the door you see a large open field with plenty of lighting and along the wall attached to the door you see various weapons. Luthien pulls down a beautiful white lance decorated to look stunning with what appears to be a hidden shortsword in the hilt. Reith calls forth a scythe made of red and both weapons appear to have a very unique look to them.
“Its been too long Luthien.” Reith says
“Indeed” Luthien replies.
07-08-2013, 10:06 PM
Ebonmar watches for now, not having accepted any challenge. He pays attention to both women, their weapons and abilities.
07-08-2013, 10:27 PM
The two women stand about thirty feet apart each with a weapon of choice. Luthien holds on to a brooch on her chest and blue full plate unfolds from it shaping around the middle-aged elf in a perfect manner. The headpiece on it narrows in at the front forming a line and at the back has two small wings for decoration. She draws the lance at chest height and waits. Lady Rieth starts by going into a crouching stance holding her scythe with both hands.
The tension builds as both stand ready for an attack and then suddeny and swiftly Reiths hair, clothes and scythe change color to white she growls and charges in. Luthien pulls out of her stance to cast a spell then braces the lance with one hand charging it at a high speed. The first clash is met between the lance and scythe as they clash. Reith lets go of the scythe and then process to manifest claws on her hands and swings at Luthien. Luthien takes the brunt of one of the claws and then steps back rearing the lance into Reiths shoulder. Reith lets out a canine yelp but grabs a hold of it lifting Luthien into the air and then slamming her down on the ground… or she would have if Luthien did not fall like a feather. The women back away from each other for a monent circling the other.
Reith changes back to red and speaks “You are a most impressive humanoid. If I was allowed my full power you would be an easier opponent but as it is we seem to be evenly matched.”
Luthien takes a couple breaths “The point of these exercises is so that when you charge into combat it is as someone who can utilize their full potential. Not rely on her brute strength alone.”
Reith then launches another attack when Luthien casts a spell and narrowly escapes it only to appear ten feet behind with the lance facing the other direction. Reith spins around like a wild beast and does something unusual, she lets out a shout and breaths fire from it in a cone at Luthien. Luthien manages to escape the brunt of it and slams the spear into Reiths head like a bat. Reith appears shocked but when she goes to grab the lance the gets the end of it but you can see is a folding longsword that extends out when the handle is pulled away from the weapon. Luthiens eyes glow blue for a moment and the sword glows with a flame of a similar color. She then closes on Reith to take a swing which is narrowly avoided followed by an uppercut from Reith to Luthiens guts. Reith takes a step back allowing Luthien to catch her breath.
Reith speaks “That about covers the warmup shall we begin the real deal?”
Luthien nods and then holds her sword “Lets begin.”
The fighting scales from there, their movements, casting all of what they can do put up. It is clear to Ebomnar that Reith is holding back despite Luthiens power. For another half hour they continue at the pace until Luthien is breathless.
Luthien “Good sparr”
Reith smiles “Indeed.”
07-08-2013, 10:38 PM
The Strix watches in awe, though he tries hard not to allow his facial expression to show it. He mostly pays attention to Reith’s moves…and her words, thinking that this individual may be one of the Guardians the others were looking for. It not, then she certainly possessed strength great enough to at least gather their interest. A part of him is thankful his insults didn’t go too far, but another desires…perhaps insanely, to do so for the sheer impulsiveness of it.
07-08-2013, 10:49 PM
“You’ve improved a bit Luthien.” Reith says
“You’re as devious as ever Devil Dog.” Luthien replies cathing her breath. She recalls her full plate and examines the few injuries she got during the spar “Your control is getting better. You might be able to take someone in alive for a change.”
Reith laughs a little at that
07-11-2013, 11:10 AM
Slowly, Ebonmar tilts his head, looking at Reith in a new light. He carefully notes in his mind the skills and techniques used by both, especially Reith. “If you were holding back, Lady Reith, I do wonder what your full capabilities are, given your origins.”
07-11-2013, 11:19 AM
Luthien almost looks like she is about to say something but Reith speaks up silencing her. “I was the runt of my litter, which meant I had to endure every hardship imaginable. My master picked me for my potential and trained me, the only thing I asked was that I be allowed to show my family. I killed every last one of them, then I killed the legendary Cerberus, Asmodeus pet dog for good measure. Since my master is weaker than almost everyone in this room I had to go to Luthien for training. Now even in my altered form I begin to surpass her. So what say you so far from home, what will you do?”
Lady Reith puts on a wicked smile.

“That depends on your intent. Though I am curious who your master is, but I assume that’s information you are not inclined to share.”
07-11-2013, 12:14 PM
Reiths grin enlarges “I tell you what, you duel with me and I will give you the name of my master. Further I will make sure any injuries you sustain are tended to.”
Luthien does not looks pleased.
07-11-2013, 12:18 PM
“I’m not that interested in knowing your master to do such. Your skills appear far beyond mine. What would you have to gain by besting one who is of lesser power?”
07-11-2013, 12:26 PM
Reith’s grin remains constant “Smart boy, it was never about the besting. I wanted to see how intelligent you were, a direct confrontation with me would bring you to the brink of death if I didn’t pull punches. Now then my buisness here is concluded and I have people who think they can run from council law to catch. I can see why he chose here.”
Reith exchanges a bow with Luthien “Fairwell old friend.”
Luthien smiles “Until next time.”
Reith then walks direct in front of Ebonmar and stands only two inches in front of him towering over him “I will see you soon and here’s a hint. His first rule to combat is know your enemy as well as you know yourself.”
Reith then extends a hand as if waiting for a handshake.

Ebonmar uses a Knowledge (The Planes) to see if this has any significance for devils, warhounds, etc.
07-11-2013, 12:45 PM
Ebomnar thinks on the Nessian Warhounds handshake offer revealing the following.
07-11-2013, 12:48 PM
Ebonmar shakes the hand offered, looking the Warhound in the eyes unflinchingly.

After the handshake Reith leaves without so much of a word. Luthien gets up and places her lance back on its spot on the wall after cleaning both the hidden blade and the lance itself. She then uses prestidigitation to get rid of any bloodstains out of her cclothing. She then speaks “I must apologize for Reith, her pride has long since clouded her judgement. Today has been a rather learning experience for you hasn’t it?”
07-11-2013, 01:05 PM
“Indeed. Who is her master? Does she really work for this city’s council?”
07-11-2013, 01:07 PM
“Her master is unknown to everyone, though she does work for Zwindler. She can be a ruthless cuthroat and live up to races reputation but she has a code to abide and never once disobeyed it. It’s been a long time since I fought with or against her, Come now for some tea.” Luthien replies
07-11-2013, 04:37 PM
“Very well. Do you know when I may meet with your wayward blade bound?”
07-11-2013, 04:42 PM
Luthien sits down and pours two cups of tea “She will arrive here when she is done, should be two to three days and I will send her to you. She is most interested in acquiring new knowledge.”
07-11-2013, 05:04 PM
07-11-2013, 06:29 PM
“Mostly she will be intrigued by your unique appearance, your chosen partner and probably your way of life.” Luthien replies while heating the tea “She rarely takes interest in knowledge of power more so knowledge as power. Her intent to learn and study, I have yet to see her use an ability she doesn’t have a full grasp on and doesn’t understand the consequence of her actions. She doesn’t skirmish often, just enough to learn her style. Given Nashara is much a dervish fighter, Phayge is her scimitar and often encourages her understanding of the world. Nashara wishes to know everything she can and record much like an old one mentioned in tales long before our time.”
07-11-2013, 08:01 PM
“She sounds similar to myself in many ways.” Ebonmar raises an eyebrow for a moment, thinking. “This should prove most interesting.”
“One would hope so, Life is meant to lived after all.” Luthien takes a sip. “Now, Meister is there anything else I can help you with? I have been postponing my duties as Headmaster to satisfy curiosity and I do mean to be rude but my time is running short for some errands.”
